Srinagar, Feb 11 (KNO): The Government of India on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that 7,805 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) have been installed in Jammu and Kashmir, covering 3,704 villages as of December 31, 2025. In a written reply, Minister of State for Communications Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that telecom service providers have expanded 5G services across the country, with coverage now available in over 3.66 lakh villages nationwide. The government said that 5G technology offers higher data speeds, lower latency and improved network efficiency, which are expected to boost digital inclusion, innovation, employment and key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture and industry. The Minister informed that several measures have been taken to strengthen cybersecurity and data protection in the 5G ecosystem, including Sanchar Saathi, AI-based fraud detection systems, telecom equipment security testing, and implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. India currently has over 385 million 5G subscribers, making it the second-largest 5G market globally, the government said—(KNO)
